River Hamble Rowing Club promotes recreational rowing on the river from it’s base at the Jolly Sailor in Bursledon. The Club now has 6 Bursledon Gigs, kept in the water at the Pub.
During summer time there are regular Tuesday evening rowing sessions from 6pm, subject to tide. We aim to have a social row or two to Hamble for supper, to Botley for a curry or to the Horse and Jockey for brunch. Expeditions are organised for weekends such as a row to Ashlett Creek or to other waters such as Keyhaven. Sunday rowing, usually at 10 am, takes place all year round. Depending on the tide, we may row in the afternoon so please check the website diary for dates and times - details below.
Many members take part in occasional races, such as the Hamble River Raid, Bursledon Regatta and The Great River Race on the Thames. Some row to win, others for the joy of the event. New members are always welcome and an ability to row is not necessary as tuition is available. Information on the club and how to join can be found on www.hambleriverrowing.co.uk or come along on any Tuesday evening from April 9, or any Sunday (check times) and make yourself known to the friendly people getting boats ready, who will be happy to help.
Open Day - Saturday 4 May
Come and try rowing on the River Hamble at our annual Open Day on Saturday 4 May, 11.30 am to 3.30 pm. Complete beginners or more experienced rowers very welcome. Find us down on the Jolly Sailor pontoon, where club members will be on hand to help. You should be on the water within 10 minutes of arriving. The Jolly Sailor is a good place to be while waiting, or after your row. We look forward to seeing you there.
