Miller's Pond Nature Reserve Gets New Footpaths

Thanks to a generous grant from the Prime Foundation, the Sholing Valleys Study Centre volunteers have been installing more new footpaths on the Local Nature Reserve. It was hard work due to the recent very wet conditions but the footpaths have bedded in well. There is still more work to be done in the coming months.

Due to the work of the local community and the Sholing Valleys Study Centre group, Miller’s Pond has been selected by the Environment Agency for a massive restoration project. The work will take several years to complete and will see many changes to improve the habitat for wildlife.

At the start of December we attempted to carry out our first species survey. Unfortunately, due to the invasive water lily’s roots, we were unable to drag the nets across the bed of the pond and catch anything.

Are you a local angler? Would you like to help create a better environment?

We are going to hold a catch competition and would like to hear from local anglers that may be interested in taking part in the project. Please email us for more details. Sholingvalleyslnr@gmail.com
